Merge branch 'master'

* master:
  avoid echo -e, there are systems where it does not work
  fix "test: 2: unexpected operator" on bsd
  Fix object re-hashing
  hashtable-based objects: minimum fixups.
  Use a hashtable for objects instead of a sorted list
