Documentation: unbreak regex in show-ref manual
I am not sure why, but the regular expression "(?:\^\{\})" gets rendered by asciidoc as "(?:\{})". The intent seems to be a regex matching the literal string "^{}", so this rewrites the markup to produce "(?:\^{})" as output.
