This patch does 3 things:
1) Output the number of commits along with the name for each author
(nice to know for long lists spending more than a screen worth of
commit lines).
2) Provide a switch (-n) to sort authors according to their number of
commits instead of author alphabetic order.
3) Provide a switch (-s) to supress commit lines and only keep a
summary of authors and the number of commits for each of them.
And for good measure a short usage is displayed with -h.

In addition to hardcoded list of kernel people, read from .mailmap file
the list of email-to-name translations. Modernize regexps here and there
minimally while at it.

This is a nicer fix for git-shortlog being unable to handle the raw log
format. Just use a more permissive regexp instead of doing two nearly
identical ones.

As promised, this is the "big tool rename" patch. The primary differences
since 0.99.6 are:
(1) git-*-script are no more. The commands installed do not
have any such suffix so users do not have to remember if
something is implemented as a shell script or not.
(2) Many command names with 'cache' in them are renamed with
'index' if that is what they mean.
There are backward compatibility symblic links so that you and
Porcelains can keep using the old names, but the backward
compatibility support is expected to be removed in the near
future.
